Versatility and high performance are claimed for the new short tail excavator offered in Europe by Komatsu Europe International.

The PC228USLC-10 excavator benefits from the firm’s proven technology seen in the previous model and includes hydraulic system upgrades, improved operator control and comfort, excellent lift capacity and stability, and lower fuel consumption. The PC228USLC-10 features operating weights of 23.8-24.5tonnes and is powered by a 123kW 2300 Komatsu SAA6D107E-2 engine that is Stage IIIB/Tier 4 Interim certified.

Highly compact, the PC228USLC-10 tail allows the machine to work in confined areas for road, bridge, and urban applications. The rounded cab design allows the cab to rotate within the same swing radius as the counterweight. The sliding cab door allows unrestricted access to the cab in confined spaces. The PC228USLC-10 features the Komatsu CARE program as standard. For the first three years or 2,000 hours this package covers factory-scheduled maintenance, performed by Komatsu-trained technicians with Komatsu parts and offers up to two complimentary diesel particulate filter (DPF) exchanges and a warranty for the first 5 years or 9,000 hours.

The machine comes with the latest KOMTRAX technology, which sends operating information to a secure website using wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, fuel consumption, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis. The fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft and allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor.

The PC228U engine provides a 6.7% increase in power whilst lowering fuel consumption. Using an advanced electronic control system to manage airflow rate, fuel injection, combustion parameters, and aftertreatment functions. To ensure product reliability and durability in demanding conditions, Komatsu developed the entire system, including the control software that is critical to the effective operation of the after treatment package.

All major components on the new PC228USLC-10 including the engine, hydraulic pumps, motors, and valves are exclusively designed and produced by Komatsu. Using a closed centre load sensing (CLSS) system, the hydraulic system of the PC228USLC-10 was boosted to increase efficiency, lower hydraulic loss and fuel consumption. New engine and hydraulic pump control technology improves operational efficiency, speed and productivity whilst lowering fuel consumption by up to 4% over the previous model.
