A third of the streets in the Latvian capital Riga are in need of some repair, according to recent comments by the city’s deputy mayor.

His comments come after the city completed a road-scanning exercise that used artificial intelligence (AI) to establish which streets were in greater need of repair than others.

The city council has said it plans to repair 10 per cent of the damaged roads annually and this year will spend between €20 million and €22 million on the work. Most of the repairs should be finished within five years.
