A series of road improvements will be carried out across Nigeria. Funding worth US$256.4 million has been secured by the Nigerian Government to pay for upgrades and repairs to important road links.
The A1 highway linking Oyo with Ogbomosho (to the north of Ibadan) is being resurfaced along a 52km stretch. The contractor is using a more durable polymer-modified bitumen additive in the asphalt, while the shoulders of the route will also now have an asphalt surface instead of surface dressing.
A new arterial road is being constructed by contractor Gilmor Engineering in the capital, Abuja. In addition, funding for the new bridge connecting Loko and Oweto has now been sourced. The bridge will span the River Benue and connect the road from Loko in Nasarawa State with Oweto in Benue State at a point roughly in between Makurdi and Lokoja.
