A major programme of highway improvement works will be carried out in Northern Italy. The road firm Autostrade per l'Italia (ASPI) has budgeted €4 billion for highway upgrades in Emilia-Romagna region. The upgrade and maintenance programme will be carried out over a four-year period.
This is around double the budget for road improvements carried out in the previous 10 years.
Widening the A13 route linking Ferrara and Bologna is expected to cost €800 million. Building a ring road around Modena will cost €83.5 million. Work will be carried out to the A14 linking Bologna and Ravenna.
