Upgrade work is being carried out on the busy I-10 route in California. Toll lanes are being added to a 53km stretch of the highway, with this work costing an estimated US$929 million. The work should be complete by 2023 and includes upgrades to 18 bridges along the route.

Meanwhile, resurfacing work is being carried out on the 32km stretch of I-10 between Beaumont and Highway 111 in Whitewater. This section runs through the San Gorgonio Pass and is being repaved as the existing concrete slabs have become uneven and bumpy through years of carrying heavy traffic. This work is costing $210 million, with the majority of the paving work being carried out during the night to minimise traffic disruption.
