Terex Finlay says its latest models are versatile and productive, allowing easy transport and high output

The level of technology being applied to mobile crushing and screening systems continues to advance, which is indicative of manufacturer confidence in this sector as one that continues to offer an economic benefit. An example of how electronic technology can lead to greater productivity can be found with 3363 KPI-JCI - the firm has introduced a high resolution colour monitor for its tracked jaws and impactors, to give improved user-friendliness for performance and diagnostic functions.

The monitor displays larger and clearer text from its display, with a level of brightness and clarity that affords easy viewing in bright sunlight, says the company.

With easier-to-understand symbol navigation, operators and technicians can navigate the system without the use of a manual, it is claimed.

With greater diagnostic capability of the electrical and hydraulic systems, the monitor can provide enhanced engine diagnostics with information including fuel pressure, intake manifold temperature, boost pressure and an onscreen manual fuel prime feature.

In the true spirit of recycling, 6934 Metso has developed the industry's first screening media that can be recycled. By replacing the traditional steel reinforcement within the trellex LS rubber modular screening media systems with an environmentally-friendly composite material, Metso says customers no longer have to treat screening modules that are unsuitable for production, as waste.

Called the Metso trellex LS-Eco, it offers a number of benefits. Each panel is up to 40% lighter than standard steel reinforced trellex LS panels, making it easier to handle.

And compared to steel-reinforced panels, the composite-reinforced Eco panels are more flexible and will reduce the effects of pegging and blinding during screening operations, leading to reductions in downtime and improved productivity, says Metso. the first available size is 305x610, though additional sizes will be available next year.

1222 Terex Finlay has aimed for heavy-duty status with its 863 tracked, compact mobile screener. Engineered and built for working in quarrying, mining, construction and demolition debris, topsoil, recycling, sand, gravel, coal and aggregate applications where site space is at a premium, the 863 has the capacity to process at a rate of up to 250tonnes/hour and can be fed either by a tracked mobile crusher or excavator.

The 863 uses an aggressive, forward facing inclined modular screenbox, which has a 2,755mm x 1,200mm top deck and a 2,755mm x 1,200mm bottom deck. Depending on the working application of the machine, the screen box angle can be adjusted hydraulically between 14-18°.

And the discharge end of the screenbox can be hydraulically raised by 500mm to improve access for changing screening media.

Terex Finlay says the top deck of the screenbox can be fitted with a variety of screening media including tines, bofor bars, punched plate and mesh, while the bottom deck can be fitted with mesh or cascade fingers.

A high performance 1,000mm four-ply belt feeder with hydraulic gearbox drive, is fitted to the machine as standard and the hopper benefits from a 5m3 capacity as standard.

The machine is equipped with three hydraulically folding discharge conveyors, which afford maximum stockpiling capacity and the associated benefits of rapid set up and removal times - Terex Finlay says this self-contained mobile screener can be hydraulically folded and ready for transport in less than 30 minutes. Power comes from a 49kw 201 Deutz 2011 air-cooled engine, while additional features include an optional remote radio control, simplifying on-site mobility.

The 863 is also joined by the Terex Finlay 684 inclined screener, which is the latest edition to the Finlay 6-Series product range and joins the current 663, 683, 693+ and 694+ models.

Launched at the SteinExpo event, the 684 features three full size decks in the screenbox, the 684 offers a generous screening area of 21.9m2 from its three 4,300mm x 1,700mm screens.

Equipped with four discharge conveyors that are both adjustable and hydraulically folding for transport, the 30tonne 684 can be reduced to 17.2m in length and 3m wide to ease transport logistics. Power comes from a tier 4i/Stage IIIB Caterpillar C4.4 engine developing 82kw.


325 Sandvik has upgraded its range of crushers to meet tier 4i/Stage IIIB emissions and as a result, the QJ340, QJ240, QJ330 and QH330 mobile crushers have been upgraded to QJ341, QJ241, QJ331 and QH331.

To accommodate the power packs and associated after-treatment technologies, Sandvik has embarked on developing an all new engine compartment.

However, along with the introduction of this new power pack, Sandvik has taken the opportunity to produce a number of radical and innovative design changes to enhance performance and serviceability.

As a result, the new models will feature a 1434 Danfoss hydraulic and electrical control system for greater efficiency, full PLC control system and colour screen allowing visual data output and control, a hydraulically driven cooling fan with auto reverse to remove dust from radiators, plus proportional control for machine tracking.

In addition, all models will benefit from hydraulic raise and lower to the main conveyor on the jaw crushers to give increased clearance for rebar discharge in recycling applications.

Sandvik adds that easier maintenance is a supplementary benefit from these changes.

Engine service points are easily accessible with low level drain plugs, hydraulic valves will be situated at ground level for ease of access and steel pipework will be used to give a maintenance-free sealing solution and improved heat dissipation.

Mobile crushing and screening firm 2992 Keestrack has added a range of jaw crushers to its equipment line, following the purchase last year of Italian manufacturer OM. Since then, the company continues to develop new equipment.

Its latest kit includes the company's first mobile cone crusher, the Galion, capable of crushing outputs of up to 200tonnes/hour. the Galion uses a quick release system that allows the feeder to be inter-changed with a prescreen.

Options include a secondary two-deck screenbox, measuring 4,500mm x 1,500mm.

On a much smaller scale and with less capacity, is Herbst Machinery. the Irish maker has entered the compact crusher market with its imaginatively named Compac Crusher, which has been engineered to work in tandem with the firm's 8140 Compac Screen.

The 16tonne crusher uses a 93kW, Deutz engine to drive its jaw crushing mechanism, while the intake system uses speed sensors to automatically adjust material flowing into the jaw, to prevent over-loading and blocking the machine.

Jaw openings can be adjusted from 40- 100mm, and water jets can be integrated into the crusher mechanism and discharge conveyor system for dust suppression.

Herbst says the discharge conveyor can be removed in a matter of minutes for those with space limitations, enabling the machine to crush and lay product directly on the floor beneath the jaw opening. An optional overband magnet system can also be fitted.

From compact to perhaps one of the largest, is 2991 Powerscreen's high capacity 1500 Maxtrak cone crusher. the plant can accept an all-in feed from a primary crusher to produce up to 950tonnes/hour of aggregate. Using terex Automax cone crusher technology, the 1500 benefits from hydraulic overload protection, hydraulic crusher setting adjustment, product shape and a high reduction ratio.

Slightly less output is available with Powerscreen's XH 320 SR mid-sized horizontal impact crusher, said to provide excellent reduction and high product shape consistency.

Equally at home crushing coal, quarried rock and recycled aggregates, the XH 320 SR features a rapid set-up time and high degree of manoeuvrability on its crawler undercarriage.

A fuel-efficient direct drive and an output potential of up to 320tonnes/hour is also possible, depending on the application and materials to be processed.

The built-in cartridge grizzly on the XH 320 has a 42mm nominal spacing and there is a load management system for feeder speed control. the crusher chamber features hydraulic overload protection and adjustment, with crusher speed variation controlled by a userfriendly PLC control system.

An independent under-crusher vibrating pan feeder is standard and the modular conveyor has a simple hydraulic raise/lower facility to aid clearance of tramp metal rebar.

The first of its kind has been bought by Yorkshire-based Lickley Contract Crushing and Screening, for its national hire business. the company opted for the XH 320 SR equipped with a 3,300mm x 1,500mm double deck post screen to deliver efficient stockpiling of a clean mid-sized product which would normally only be achieved through the use of a separate two deck screening plant.

Remaining with a high capacity theme, the largest model in Powerscreen's Warrior screen range is the 2400, which has been designed for high output, high capacity systems with an output potential of up to 800tonnes/hour, says the company.

A heavy duty inclined screen with a high amplitude, triple shaft drive enables the Warrior 2400 to handle screening, scalping, stockpiling and two- or three-way material splits.

Load sensors on the feed conveyor are said to avoid blockages, while a steel-tracked undercarriage allows rapid deployment and easy relocation on-site.
