Key highway projects planned for Indonesia

Major highway projects are commencing in Indonesia at present. One of the most important is for the Trans-Papua Highway. Work on this is being carried out by the Papua and West Papua Highway Centre. The new highway will be able to link key urban areas including Wondama, Sorong, Manokwari and Enarotali in Pania, Elelim, Jayapura, Ilu, Sinak and Karubaga in Tolikara, Ilaga, Sugapa, Bioga, Nabire and Mulia in Pucak Jaya. Major highway projects are commencing in Indonesia at present. One of the most important is for the Trans-Papua Highway. Work on this is being carried out by the Papua and West Papua Highway Centre. The new highway will be able to link key urban areas including Wondama, Sorong, Manokwari and Enarotali in Pania, Elelim, Jayapura, Ilu, Sinak and Karubaga in Tolikara, Ilaga, Sugapa, Bioga, Nabire and Mulia in Pucak Jaya. Some 827km of the 4,325km highway will pass through jungle area. The construction team has until 2018 to develop the jungle stretches of the highway. Around US$1 billion will be needed to construct the 827km route.

Meanwhile the tender for the 177km Solo-Kertosono toll road has been awarded to state-own contractors 5205 Adhi Karya and 7966 Waskita Karya in a deal worth $487.4 million. In addition, Adhi Karya won an $88.75 million contract to build a 29km link between Madiun, Saradan and Magetan in the East Java section of the road. And Waskita Karya won a $95.1 million contract to build a 20km Magetan-Ngawi link and a $253.56 million contract to build a 69km stretch between Ngawi and Karang Anyar. At the same time, a tender for a 36km link between Kertosono and Ngawi in East Java has been granted to state-owned construction firms Wijaya Karya and Waskita Karya and China Road Engineering. These projects are due for completion in 2018.
