Planning work is being carried out in Uzbekistan for what will be the country’s first ever toll road. The road will link capital Tashkent with the city of Andijan and will be 340km in length. Construction of the route is expected to cost over US$2 billion. Financing for the project has yet to be determined and building the route is expected to take between five and 10 years to complete. A feasibility study for the project was carried out by the World Bank.
Funding for the project is likely to be provided by the World Bank, which has set out proposals to develop Uzbekistan’s transport infrastructure. The country’s road and rail systems will be integrated to optimise efficiency under the proposals.
