Construction is starting for the new Bizerte Bridge in Tunisia, which is benefiting from €245 million of financing. The 2.1km bridge will be built by the Sichuan Road and Bridge Group (SRBG) and should be complete by Q3 2027.
The project will be carried out in three stages and includes building a 4.5km southbound highway, the bridge itself and a 2.5km northbound highway. The bridge will help reduce traffic levels in Bizerte, addressing concerns over congestion and pollution issues. Many of the 44,000 vehicles/day currently using the existing bridge in the centre of Bizerte will be able to use the new route instead, avoiding the city centre. Access to and from the port will also be improved for heavy vehicles, boosting transport and trade.
