Studies are underway for a major road upgrade project in Honduras. The upgrades would be carried out to a 130km section of the CA-13 route between La Seiba and Corocito. A sizable portion of the financing required for the project is being provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), although the total cost of the work has yet to be revealed. This road improvement would help boost transport for Jutiapa, Sabá, Zamora and Tocoa, which also lie along this stretch of the route. Widening work will be carried out to a 4km stretch of the route close to La Ceiba, which will feature two lanes in either direction once the upgrade is complete. Bridge upgrades may be required as part of the project, including the structures spanning the River Aguan, which lies close to the town of Sabá, and the Cangrejal River where it passes through La Ceiba.
