Construction work is underway for a new road link to Sri Lanka’s port at Colombo. The road measures 6km and is an elevated route, connecting the New Kelani Bridge with the city itself. The project is benefiting from a US$300 million finance package in the shape of a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The new route is being constructed by the Chinese contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation. The work will take 36 months to complete, with a joint venture consultancy comprising UK, Chinese and Sri Lankan firms overseeing the work.
