Chinese funding will help pay for a bridge project in the Philippines, with construction due to start shortly. The project is for the construction of a new bridge that will link Samal Island with Mindanao.
The bridge will measure 3.86km and will feature two lanes in either direction. The US$350 million is being provided via Chinese lenders. The bridge will provide a connection between the Island Garden City of Samal and Davao City, in the south of the Philippines.
Work is expected to commence on building the bridge in July 2022 and the structure is being designed with a 47m clearance for shipping underneath, as well as a deck width of 24m. The loan that will finance the work is being provided through the Chinese Government to the Philippines Department of Finance.
