A major upgrade project is being planned for the Great Western Highway in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW). The project is expected to cost US$2.87 billion (A$4.5 billion). The work is being planned by the NSW State Government. Financing worth $1.59 billion (A$2.5 billion) is being provided by the Australian Federal Government.
An environmental consultation has been carried out. The work includes improving access roads as well as facilities for vulnerable road users.
