The Mexican Secretariat of Communications and Transport has announced that US$7.8 billion, from both public and private sectors, is being invested in road projects as a consequence of the new Mexico City International Airport.
Contracts include 11 renovation projects to improve the access to Mexico Valley and the connections to the new terminal.
Work at Mexico-Pachuca, Mexico-Queretaro and Ecatepec-Piramides motorways was completed in June.
The bridge connecting Urbana Sur with Mexico-Cuernavaca motorway, and being built by the partnership of Caminos y Puentes Federales, and Ideal is looking for an investment of around $198 million.
Also under construction are lanes expansion initiativea at Mexico-Puebla motorway; La Marquesa-Toluca motorway, operated by Pinfra; Toluca-Naucalpan motorway, developed by a subsidiary of Grupo Higa and Atizapan-Atlacomulco, carried out by5494 OHL Mexico.
The contract for the La Raza-Indios Verdes-Santa Clara road project will be awarded in September and it is expected to be finished by June 2017.
Other initiatives awaiting start are the expansion of Penon-Texcoco motorway and Chamapa-La Venta road.
The Transport Secretariat also said that the La Marquesa-Lerma elevated toll motorway will start operations in June next year. The infrastructure spans over 13.7km and it will relieve part of Mexico-Toluca motorway. The project is being developed by construction company Pinfra and required an investment $232.23 million.
