A major new bridge project is being planned for Bahia in Brazil. The 12.4km bridge will connect the port of Salvador with Itaparica Asland, making it one of the longest bridges in Latin America.
The work is expected to cost US$1.5 billion. Sourcing the necessary funding for the work is one of the challenges being faced at present. Brazil's National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) may provide some of the necessary funding. The work will be carried out by a consortium that includes the Chinese contractors CRCC and CCCC.
