Major road improvements are being carried out in Gabon as part of a programme of upgrades. A key project is for the revamp of the Transgabonaise route, which is costing US$968 million.
Work to an 81km stretch of the road is underway at present, including rebuilding and maintenance. This is due for completion. Two sections of 63km connecting Nsile and Bifoun and 56km linking Bifoun with Ndjolé are to be rebuilt next, with working commencing shortly and due to be completed by the end of 2023.
The work is being managed by Gabon’s road firm, Société autoroutière du Gabon (SAG), which has sourced much of the financing required and has the concession for the route.
