The Italian highway firm ANAS will spend €6 billion on new links as well as upgrades and maintenance works. Half of the budget will be for building new road connections. Maintenance work and research and development work will account for €2.8 billion of the budget. A further €130 million will be used to carry out various studies and design work. The 2021-2027 Development and Cohesion Fund is being used to deliver the funding.

This follows on from Italy's earlier news over plans to invest €21.5 billion over 50 years in a bid to develop the country's highway network.
