Ecuador is opening the tender process for nine transport links during the 2019-2020 period. These are being offered under the concession model. The Ecuador Government reports that of the 10,000km of roads it has responsibility for in the country, some 15% are operated at present as concessions and these routes offer the best running conditions for drivers. With little money available for maintaining its roads, the Ecuador Government is understandably keen to use the concession model to ensure that its transport links remain in good condition as a result. One of the routes that is being offered for tender is Viaducto del Sur project, which involves building a road and bridge link. The link is expected to cost US$1.14 billion to build and the concession package will be for a 44 year period. Also being offered as a 30-year construction, operation and maintenance concession package is the Santo Domingo-Buena Fe project, 113km road expected to cost around $591 million to build. Also a 30 year construction, operation and maintenance concession is the package for the $221 million Naranjal to Tenguel road.
