Protecting 10 vulnerable stretches of road in Norway from avalanches could cost as much as €1.22 billion. That is the finding of research by Norway’s motoring body NAF.
The study utilised data from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen). Norway’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has established a new National Transport Plan intended to make journeys safer and more efficient.
However, the NAF research shows that protecting all of the Norwegian roads at high or medium risk from avalanches or rockslides could cost as much as €21.86 billion.
