Brazilian cement maker Brennand Cimentos now boasts a Bretec Breaker to boost efficiency
A8105 Bretec breaker has been used to solve a production problem at a materials operation in Brazil. Brazilian cement producer, Brennand Cimentos, has recently purchased a Bretec L20 hydraulic hammer. The unit is being used to carry out secondary breaking duties and split apart boulders that are too large to be moved or crushed. Introducing the breaker has helped the facility improve operational efficiency. The 1.34tonne Bretec L20 hammer has been mounted on the customer’s 2490 XCMG XE210 excavator. The low noise breaker has been pressed into immediate action at the company’s facility at Sete Lagoas that annually produces more than a million tonnes of Portland cement.
The Brennand Group expanded its activities to encompass production of ceramics, glass, cement and steel in 1950. In 1999, when the firm sold its three cement factories, the Group had a market share of around 6% of Brazilian production, with factories located in the states of Goiás, Paraíba and Alagoas.
The Group Ricardo Brennand, which came about following on from the corporate restructuring of the old Brennand Group, began developing its own specific business model. In 2000 Brennand Energy was created resulting in the construction of its first hydroelectric plants. In 2005 the Group returned to operations in the cement industry, with the first Brennand cement factory in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais. The second factory is now in its final implementation stages and is located in Paraíba.
A significant problem the company has encountered since returning to producing cement has been dealing with a large number of boulders. These, when broken down, can be used in the production process, and their removal would also prove to be of benefit to the general operations at the plant.
The customer did test a breaker from another company but the unit proved unequal to the task. When the Bretec dealer Rock Brit delivered the L20 unit it was immediately put to work on a large square boulder that the previous hammer had failed to break apart. The Breetc unit proved its worth by breaking up the boulder and the customer opted to buy the unit as a result, achieving good productivity since.
Although very happy with the Bretec breaker the actual performance, although very important, was just one factor in the purchasing decision. Another key factor for Brennand is the support that the firm receives locally from Bretec’s distributor in the region, Rock Brit. Its proximity to the site helps should there be a need for maintenance, although the Bretec hammer has not suffered any operating issues since being supplied.
