Innovative road surface repair options are now available from Klaruw
Dutch retexturing specialist 2311 Klaruw has developed four new machine prototypes for improving pavement surface skid resistance.
Its innovative MacroTex (MAT) prototype is believed to be the world's first wet steel shot-blasting machine, and the company also has two concept machines for controlled diamond grinding: a standard duty version called GrooveTex (GRT) and the MicroGrooveTex (MGT) for light applications. The fourth new machine prototype is the RotoTex (ROT), a controlled flailer.
Klaruw says that with the new product line-up it can offer a controlled mechanical retexturing solution for improving the surface skid resistance of most type, age and condition of pavement surface.
The machines, which can work in almost any weather, can help boost road safety by restoring micro-texture and improving macro-texture as well as cleaning residues, film and deposits off roads. It can be used to remove bitumen film from surfaces ready for the application of expensive high friction layers, says Klaruw.
After 12 months of testing and refining the MAT shot-blasting unit, the company is preparing for its commercial launch in 2011. Klaruw has made some adjustments to the wet shot recovery and recycling system to ensure residue filtering meets required efficiency levels.
The machine provides variable width control from a minimum of 240mm up to a maximum of 1.9m.
The GRT controlled (standard duty) diamond grinding machine is ideal for improving macro-texture of any bitumen or cement-based aggregate surface course where bush hammering or shot-blasting are unsuitable. The machine provides full control of rotation speed, working speed and infinitely adjustable depth control of the cutting drums, to cut grooves at variable pitch and depth in the pavement surface. Working width can be adjusted from around 34.5cm to 2.07m. Working speed is up to 20m/minute.
Applications for the MGT controlled diamond grinder include restoring the micro-texture of hard aggregate should bush hammering or shot blasting have little or no effect.
With a working speed of up to 20m/minute, and designed primarily to improve micro-texture, the ROT controlled flailing machine has over 2,000 flails with tungsten carbide tips which remove worn particles from the surface. The tips can also penetrate surface binder film to expose new material.
