In the UK, 5306 Global Traffic Technologies (GTT) has been awarded special supplier status for central and local government departments and agencies.
GTT is the maker of Opticom multimode phase selector technology which provides priority green lights at intersections for approaching emergency vehicles and other official and public transportation vehicles.
The Crown Commercial Service TMT2 framework agreement means that Opticom traffic pre-emption systems and products are among those that can be procured quickly and easily by UK public sector bodies. TMT2 allows direct and standardised procurement of small items through to large complex systems.
The agreement was developed to create a competitive and fast route to market for the provision of traffic management solutions, by streamlining procurement processes and increasing the number and selection of suppliers. Crown Commercial Service is an amalgamation of the Government Procurement Service with other commercial teams to ensure maximum value from commercial relationships and improve the quality of service delivery.
GTT, based in the US state of Minnesota, was formed in 2007 from 3M’s Intelligent Transportation Systems business. It manufactures Opticom priority control systems and Canoga traffic-sensing systems. Its systems cover more than 70,000 intersections and 70,000 vehicles in over 3,100 municipalities worldwide, including 41 of the 50 largest US cities.
GTT recently was issued a US patent for Opticom that allows traffic signal priority control systems to work with legacy infrared and modern GPS-enabled communication technologies.
The multimode phase selector is a component for Transit Signal Priority (TSP) and Emergency Vehicle Priority (EVP) systems. Opticom’s multimode capabilities allows emergency and public transit vehicles to move from areas with one technology to another without hindering their traffic light signal priority requests.
“The multimode phase selector actively enables different authorities and agencies to work together,” said GTT president Doug Roberts. “It helps emergency services respond to incidents quickly and safely and it simultaneously helps public transit vehicles to maintain schedule adherence and provide a reliable service for passengers.”
Opticom multimode solutions enable cities to deploy TSP and EVP enhancements with out-of-the-box affordability and seamless scalability. Roberts said Opticom gives traffic engineers and transit agencies more information, more power and more control.
