Should the bridge project go ahead, it would connect Tambon Taling Ngam on the island with Tambon Thong Nien on the mainland. The proposed bridge will feature conventional box girder construction for part of its length, as well as a cable stayed section. A section of the bridge would be high enough to allow shipping to pass underneath and the structure would also feature protection to prevent damage from vessels.
At present visitors to the island either have to fly there or use ferries. A new bridge would reduce journey times and boost tourism. The bridge would also help boost the island’s fishing industry.
