A new bridge is planned to span the Mekong River and connect Thailand with Laos. The bridge will feature both road and rail links and will form part of the high speed rail link between Thailand and China.
A study is being carried out to assess the feasibility of the project as well as to provide a preliminary design. The new bridge will be located close to the existing Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge. The design will allow for dual rail tracks and will feature a tolling system for drivers using the road link.
The preliminary work is being managed by Thailand’s Ministry of Transport but the construction work will be paid for jointly by Thailand and Laos.
