The cost of one of Russia’s most important highway projects has now been revealed. The new highway connecting Kazan in the Volga Region with Yekaterinburg in the Urals Region will cost US$6.66 billion.
The highway will feature a tolled stretch as well as a stretch that is free for use by drivers. The tolled stretch will cost $3.51 billion to build while the section that is free to use will cost $3.15 billion to construct.
Further details about the project will be revealed once the plans are complete in 2022. Construction of this new highway will provide an important new transport link for Russia, which requires more and better road links as well as more maintenance of existing connections to help develop its economy.
