The contract for a stretch of Norway’s important E39 highway route has been awarded to a subsidiary of Skanska, Vassbakk & Stol. The €33 million package is for the 2.7km section of the E39 between Hove and Osli in Rogaland. The work involves building a new road section featuring two lanes in either direction, as well as a number of bridges, local road links and 1.5km of separated facilities for vulnerable road users. However, this comparatively small project forms part of larger works to upgrade the E39 between Ålgård and Hove. Work is commencing in mid-2023 and will take until 2026 to complete.

Improving the coastal E39 route has been a major project for Norway. The route stretches some 1,330km along the country’s coast, with just a single lane in either direction along much of its length. The development works include widening the road to boost capacity and better accommodate the heavy transport trucks using the route as well as replacing the ferries that currently provide important connections.
