Norway has set out plans for major road development works for the 2022-2027 period. This will be carried out on Norway’s national roads using a substantial budget worth €20.2 billion.
The plans have been announced by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen). The aim of the plan is to improve transport connections. While the road network in the south of the country around the capital, Oslo, is well developed, even important road links in Northern Norway often leave a lot to be desired. While traffic volumes tend to be low in Northern Norway as the population levels are low, a considerable percentage of the vehicle traffic can be heavy trucks using the routes to reach industrial locations. The narrow roads can often be unsuited to use by the large trucks that have to use them, posing challenges for the industries that rely on road transport.
