A 13km section of I-95 in North Carolina will be widened by the contractor Webber, the US subsidiary of Spanish firm Ferrovial. The US$283 million package of works was awarded by the US Department of Transportation.
The I-95 highway is one of the most important routes in the US, linking Boston with Miami. The highway carries heavy traffic volumes in North Carolina, suffering from congestion at peak periods. The work will help reduce journey times for drivers and address the congestion issues.
Included in the package of works will be the replacement of a number of bridges and overpasses, while the drainage system will be upgraded. The work should be complete by 2026.
