Progress is being seen in England for two major road projects now being planned. One of the projects is for an upgrade to the A417. The other is for a new connection between the M6 and M54 motorways.
The A417 project is worth £460 million and will see the upgrade of the route between Swindon and Gloucester. The work includes building a 5.4km stretch of dual carriageway and the design and build contract has been awarded to Kier by National Highways, with the alignment due to be announced in late 2022.
Meanwhile, plans are moving forward for the 2.5km connecting road that will join the M6 and M54 motorways. The road will be close to Wolverhampton and is expected to cost £200 million. The project will be carried out by BAM Nuttall and will include a new interchange at Junction 1 of the M54.
