Construction work is underway on an important expressway connection in the Philippines at present. The project to build the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway will create a provide route between the industrial area of Cebu and Mactan International Airport.
Building this new expressway is hoped to reduce the current traffic congestion problems between Cebu City on Cebu Island and the smaller island of Mactan.
The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway will measure 8.25km and feature two lanes in either direction, carrying an estimated 40,000 vehicles/day.
The central feature of the route is the 650m cable-stayed bridge, which features a 390m main span between the pylons, linking the cities of Cebu and Cordova. Formwork specialist ULMA is providing much of the technology being used to build the bridge. The project also includes a number of viaducts, as well as a 5.2km stretch of roadway running along an embankment.
