A series of transport infrastructure works are being carried out in China’s Guangdong Province and Hunan Province.
In the city of Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, the authorities have set a target of building additional roads and expressways. There will be 12 expressways and 44 roads crossing the city once the work is complete. With its population estimated at around 17.6 million, the city has high vehicle numbers and congestion is a problem at peak periods. The aim of the project is to cut journey times, with rail links also being constructed.
Meanwhile in Henan Province, environmental approval is being given for a new highway linking Zhengzhou and Luoyang. Building the highway is expected to cost close to US$3 billion.
