A series of road building projects are planned for Russia’s capital, Moscow. The aim of the plan is to expand the city’s road network by 339km by 2022. New roads will connect existing trunk roads and highways. The work will also see improvements made to existing junctions and rebuilding of existing routes. In all 60 pedestrian crossings, 99 bridges, flyovers and overpasses will be built as part of the programme. This continues the work to improve the city’s road system, which has seen the total length of the road network being extended by 19% between 2011 and 2019. So far 878km of new roads, 225 pedestrians crossings and 262 bridges, tunnels and flyovers have been built in this period.
