The project has been managed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. The new route will provide a major boost for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The 29km link has four lanes in either direction and has been designed to carry 130,000 vehicles/day. Measuring just over 29km, the route links South Mumbai with the city’s western suburbs, reducing journey times for drivers to just 40 minutes, compared with two hours previously. It also connects with the new Navi Mumbai airport and Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The toll rates, speed limits and permitted vehicle types have also been announced for the bridge. One of the most complex components of the projects was for the 7.8km-long bridge section across the Mumbai Bay.
