Highway corridor works are being planned in Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh in India. A healthy budget of US$4.3 billion has been set for the work, which will improve transport.
The works are being planned by India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The 250km corridor linking Udhampur with Srinagar and running through Ramban and Banihal will be the first to be constructed, costing $1.96 billion.
In addition, 41 tunnel stretches are being built in these states at a total cost of $5.5 billion.
