Explosive demolition was used to remove an aged bridge in Kansas City on Saturday 7th June. The overpass blast and clean up afterwards was carried out successfully, with the operations going to plan. The Roe Avenue bridge over I-435 was brought down at night, so as to reduce traffic disruption, with the blasted structure falling precisely onto the bed of rock and dirt prepared by the demolition crew so as to minimise damage to the roadway running underneath. The old structure is being replaced with a new interchange that should be ready later this year.
