An important new road link in New Zealand will open later than originally planned. The highway linking Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu was expected to open at the end of 2024 but will now be delayed until mid-2025.
The project is costing nearly US$388 million (NZ$620 million). The COVID-19 pandemic has been a major factor in the delay although the project has also been affected by cost increases.
Meanwhile, work is underway for the last section of Auckland’s Eastern Busway. Costing nearly $876 million (NZ$1.4 billion), this stretch will run between Pakuranga and Botany. The route will carry electric buses when complete.
