The tender process for the project to extend the highway linking Costa Rica’s capital San Jose with Cartago will open in the second quarter of 2022. The project is being managed by Costa Rica’s National Council of Concessions (CNC).
Construction of the highway extension will be carried out in five separate stages. Building the link is expected to cost US$487 million, with construction expected to commence at the end of 2023 or beginning of 2024.
The highway project will be offered as a 25-year concession package. The work is needed to help cope with the increased traffic volumes between San Jose and Cartago.
