A contractor from Ecuador is taking over a major Colombian road project. The firm, Hidalgo e Hidalgo, will start work on the project in the third quarter of 2022.
The project is expected to cost around US377 million and should be ready for traffic in 2026. The work is for a stretch of road linking Popayan with Santander de Quilichao. Although the contract was awarded back in 2015, no work was ever carried out on the link. The package of works was awarded by Colombia's National Infrastructure Agency (ANI).
Meanwhile, Colombia’s National Institute of Roads (INVIAS) has agreed approvals for road works with the local authorities in Risaralda and Valle del Cauca. The works have a total value of $239 million. The works are for the road link from La Romelia to El Pollo, the road linking La Virginia with Ansermanuevo-Cartago, the road connecting Cartago and Alcala and a road between Tacurumbi and GVI junction.
