Chile’s important Chacao Bridge project has been subject to a series of delays. The project was originally intended to be complete by 2020, but will now be ready for Chile's drivers in 2025.
The suspension bridge is being designed to cope with the massive earthquakes that affect the area, as well as the fierce tides and storms that also occur. The bridge will provide a link to Chiloe Island and is expected to provide a substantial boost to the local economy. Chile's tourism sector is likely to benefit significantly. At present, those travelling to and from the island have to rely on the ferry service.
