Vietnam plans major road expansion

Vietnam is working on plans for a major expansion of its expressway network. The plans call for a new network of expressways to be constructed by 2020. Vietnam is working on plans for a major expansion of its expressway network. The plans call for a new network of expressways to be constructed by 2020. The programme of works calls for the construction of 21 new expressways, with a total distance of 6,411km. The new routes will connect major cities including Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Ha Noi as well linking with Vietnam’s major seaports. The new routes also will also improve connections from Vietnam’s major cities to its key border crossings, main economic hubs and transport centres. The new expressways will reduce journey times. One of the main projects will be the construction of a North-South expressway. The country’s southern expressway network will measure a total of 983km and feature seven routes in all. Meanwhile Vietnam’s new northern expressway network will measure 1,368km in all and feature 14 different routes. The network for Vietnam’s Central area and Central Highlands will feature three expressways measuring a total of 264km.
