Funding worth US$1.44 billion from the African Development Bank (AfDB) will help pay for transport infrastructure works in Nigeria.Two of the road projects to benefit will be the highway linking Sokoto with Badagry and the coastal highway connecting the country’s former capitals, Lagos and Calabar.The 1,000km Sokoto-Badagry route will connect the city of Sokoto in the North West of Nigeria, and close to the border with Niger, with Badagry in the South West, close to the border with Benin and also Nigeria’s mega city, Lagos. Approval for the design of the road has been given by the Nigerian Government.The coastal route will improve connectivity between Nigeria and its neighbours, boosting transport and trade internally and internationally. Abuja became Nigeria’s capital in late 1991. Lagos does remain Nigeria's commercial centre however. Paragraph
