A LEGAL dispute is now underway in Russia over the St Petersburg ring road project.
Construction company Flora was awarded a €187.6 million contract for an 11km section of the ring road in 2008, winning the tender by making the lowest bid.
However, the Russian authorities have taken the contract for this section of the ring road away from Flora claiming it did not meet set targets.
Flora is disputing the loss of the contract with the authorities. In the meantime, the construction work is at present incomplete.
The authorities in St Petersburg are, however, starting to receive bids for further sections of the3639 Western High Speed Diameter (WHSD) highway. Total starting price for the contracts stands at €307 million.
Russian contractor Mostootryad #19 is already working on the third stage of the WHSD link from the ring road to Beloostrov in a $620 million project.
In addition, the local authorities in St Petersburg will provide €210.4million for road repairs. Under this plan some 5 million m² of road pavement will be resurfaced during summer 2010.
A positive note is also taken for the upgrade project for the Rostov-Semikarakorsk-Volgodonsk road, where the Russian authorities have awarded the project to contractor Rostovavtomost.
