The latest official data from Malaysia reveals a worrying increase in road accidents during 2010.

The latest official data from Malaysia reveals a worrying increase in road accidents during 2010. The information has been collated by the 875 Malaysian Police and reveals that there were 414,421 road accidents in 2010, an increase of 4.3% from 2009. The data also shows a slight increase in the fatal accident rate on Malaysia's roads, hitting 2,620 incidents in 2010 compared with 6,218 in 2009. The actual number of fatalities from road accidents also climbed slightly, reaching 6,872 deaths in 2010 compared with 6,745 in 2009. Malaysia's growing economy is resulting in an increasing number of vehicles being registered and the fatality rate is likely to continue to increase. The 3491 Malaysian Government has identified this issue however and is taking a number of steps to increase road safety.
