In Romania the road authorities have signed a deal for the construction of a 22km stretch of highway in a contract worth €91 million.
The Portuguese contractor2753 Monte Adriano will construct the section linking Nadlac with Pecica.
Romania has pledged to improve and expand its highway network with the construction of new links, and much of the funding for its highway plans has been provided by the1166 European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the 1054 European Investment Bank (EIB).
Meanwhile, the country’s new Basarab-Constanta highway stretch and the Constanta ring road will be partially open for traffic in July 2011. The highway project is being carried out by1324 Astaldi and Max Boegl and is expected to cost €211 million.
Bidding is also healthy for other key road projects including modernisation of the DN18 national road linking Baia Mare with Iacobeni, a 200km project worth €194.65 million (excluding VAT) where bidders include Shapir of Israel;945 Strabag of Austria; 1570 Aktor and Mochlos of Greece; and a consortium formed by Spedition UMB and Tehnostrade. Shapir, Aktor and Strabag placed bids to upgrade the stretch between Baia Mare and Sighetul Marmatiei and the section from Sighetul Marmatiei–Moisei. The three companies also placed bids for the upgrade of the third segment of the road between Moisei and Iacobeni.
