The Colombian authorities have launched 17 road infrastructure tenders worth a total of US$1.89 billion. The tender process is remaining open until 30th January 2012. A further tender for maintenance to 20 roads will be launched in February 2012, with plans also in hand for repairs to 2,500km of roads affected by harsh winter conditions. Funds will be made available during 2012 for the most vulnerable sections of road. This is the highest level of investment ever made for Colombian road infrastructure. The 2556 Ministry of Transport has said that it will only pay for each project once the work has been completed. In addition, projects may not necessarily be awarded for the lowest bid.
