Like fellow D Series models the 301.7D and 302.2D, the 302.4D is said to be a powerful and versatile machine that works comfortably in confined spaces. With model configurations said to closely reflect their operating weights of 1.6-2.5tonnes, the new D Series machines are said by Cat to feature powerful hydraulics, a spacious operator environment and excellent service access.
Compact in size yet fitted with durable steel body panels to increase damage resistance, the 301.7D, 302.2D and 302.4D can be easily transported on a trailer, or in a pick-up truck.
The 301.7D can be fitted with either a fixed or extending undercarriage, while the 302.2D is fitted with an extending undercarriage as standard and, according to Cat, delivers a greater dig depth and lifting performance. A longer dozer blade is also optional on both the 301.7D and 302.2D models.
D-Series models are available with a canopy operator’s station that enables access from both sides of the machine, or with an optional enclosed cab providing premium standard features such as an efficient heater, defroster, and ventilation system, as well as a retractable front window with a strut assisted linkage that can be easily stowed in the roof space. A comfortable suspension seat, retractable seat belts, adjustable wrist rests, and ample legroom are also said to be features of the operator’s cabin.
The models’ hydraulic function is operated by the proportional roller on the joystick.
Cat says extended routine service times, saving time and machine operating costs, are another valuable benefit of its trio of new D Series models.
Oil-impregnated sintered-alloy bearings in their boom and digging-arm linkages are said to require grease only at 500-hour intervals, while engine oil changes are now required every 500 hours, and hydraulic oil changes every 3,000 hours. A Cat S.O.S fluid-sampling port for hydraulic oil is said to allow accurate, periodic assessment of fluid condition during the models’ lives.
The other mini excavator model being showcased at bauma will be the compact radius Cat 308.E2.RSS
